- Platform will link together thousands of key child policy and legislation documents on over 50 Intranet sites worldwide
- Uses Web 3:0 semantic classifications to extend functionality of SharePoint investment to deliver up-to-the-minute information across the enterprise
NetworkedPlanet, the leading vendor of information management tools and products, has announced a major new order from EveryChild, the international child protection and development charity. EveryChild will use NetworkedPlanet’s TMCore SharePoint module to power the search facility in its new global Intranet – which will connect hundreds of employees across 50 sites globally. Now, for the first time, the new Intranet will enable EveryChild’s employees to have a central point of information, regardless of location, and allow them to access key policy information and keep them up to date on new legislation – which might include details on AIDS awareness.
The charity previously used a traditional shared network drive to store company documents however, following a SharePoint installation it needed a solution to enhance search facilities and intelligently link information across its different locations including the UK, Russia, India and Cambodia. As part of the order, NetworkedPlanet’s TMCore SharePoint Module will enable EveryChild’s employees to link documents together and classify them according to topic and theme. The new solution will provide a way for EveryChild to relate all of its content in a structure that represents the organisation, the projects it runs, the places it works, the important themes it addresses and the partner organisations that it works with. This will allow employees to semantically search across the organisation – significantly enhancing and speeding up search capabilities.
Ade Adeyemo, IT Manager at EveryChild: “As our organisation has grown it has become more and more important for us to adopt an efficient and quick approach to enterprise search. NetworkedPlanet’s Topic Maps technology was the ideal solution as it was able to extend the functionality of our existing SharePoint application. Going forward, all departments will use the Intranet for storing and managing all of the documents that they share with other departments. By using a single classification scheme for all documents it is possible to quickly find all information relating to a particular theme such as ‘AIDS awareness’ – for example. Classifying documents by not only their subject but also their function, the user can then narrow that search down to finding just ‘policy documents about AIDS awareness’ or even ‘policy documents about AIDS awareness in Malawi’. These documents are found even if they don’t explicitly use these phrases in their content.
This project has also enabled us to standardise on company document classifications so that every employee is working from the same page when tagging content – which in the long run will really enable us to future proof our documenting and searching system.
Ade Adeyemo, IT Manager, EveryChild
“Growing organisations need a central and efficient solution which enables them to share information across the business – regardless of location,” commented Kal Ahmed, Founder of NetworkedPlanet. “The beauty of Topic Maps technology is that it enables users to tag documents according to content and theme, which means that anyone looking for a similar document or information on that same topic will automatically have access to a relevant file. We are noticing that more and more charity organisations – many of which have offices across the world – are taking advantage of Web 3.0 semantic classifications and adopting a TopicMaps approach to search to significantly enhance communication across the enterprise.”
